Children throughout the school are encouraged to take on leadership roles. These responsibilities increase as the children move through the school. In Key Stage 1, children are given monitor roles within the classroom and are voted in as school councillors.

Children in Year 3 have school council roles, monitor roles and also become Eco Warriors. They have an active role in monitoring how eco friendly each class are being.

In Year 4, children have school council roles, monitor roles and also become Reading Buddies. The Year 4 Reading Buddies listen to Year 1 and 2 children read, as well as reading to the younger children, acting as role models. They received certificates in assembly for their efforts.

As pupils move into the Upper Juniors, they are asked to prepare a speech to explain why they should be Head Boy or Head Girl. The children will present their speeches in assembly and the school vote for who they believes demonstrates their school values the best.

Following the vote then all children are assigned a role and we aim to cater these roles to children’s individual strengths. These roles vary from subject prefects, key stage prefects, reading mentors, school council roles, team captains to wildlife ambassadors.

Every week in praise assembly some of our leaders will hand out certificates (that they have made) to children they have witnessed showing the school values (ROOTS).

The children shine in their roles and learn to be leaders and role models.
